Project's title: Spatial Organisation of New and Declassified Towns of India: 1981-2001.

Objectives: The following are the major objectives of the present study.

  • To study the spatial organization of new and declassified towns of India.
  • To analyze the political, economic and demographic factors responsible for the emergence of new and declassification of existing towns of India.
  • To find out the contribution of new towns to the process of urban growth.
  • To examine the emergence of outgrowth and its contribution in the spatial pattern of urbanization.

Methodology: The methodology consists of computing the census data and generating tables and maps for the towns of India.

Area of study: No fieldwork since it is based on census data.
