World Population Day 2006 |

The World Population Day for the year 2006 was observed at the Institute on July 11 by organizing half a day symposium on "Youth in India: Perspectives and Challenges". Following persons were invited to speak on the occasion:
Dr. Mari Bhat, Director and Senior Professor of the Institute could not attend the function because of his engagement at Nagaland. Dr. H.C. Srivastava, Acting Director and Professor and Head, Department of Development Studies welcomed the guests and talked about the importance of observing July 11 as the World Population Day and gave a brief account of the activities of the World Population Day in the earlier years at the Institute. Various aspects of the youth in India were highlighted by the speakers namely; Socio-economic and Demographic profile of the youths, health problems including HIV and AIDS, Employability etc. Ms. Shabana Patel, being herself HIV positive, shared her experiences about HIV positive people in a lucid manner. Prof. F. Ram, Dr. A.P. Deshpande and Dr. D.A. Nagdeve were the members of the organizing committee for the symposium. The symposium was concluded by vote of thanks proposed by Dr. A.P. Deshpande. |
