The International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS)
in collaboration with Nordic Center in India (NCI) is presently organizing a
four week training programme on “Demography, Gender & Reproductive Health”
for the students from Nordic countries. This training programme commenced on
9th July, 2007 and will conclude on 4th August 2007 at Mumbai. Students from
Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Iceland are presently attending this
course at IIPS. This course is aimed at acquainting the students from diverse
background with the basic knowledge of population studies with an emphasis on
Indian population trends in comparative perspective. The course also
introduces the recent developments in the intersecting fields of demography,
reproductive health and gender research. The course has been specially
designed keeping the students from the Nordic countries in mind. The course
includes class room lectures, laboratory exercises on computers, group work,
field visits and assignments. The participants will undertake study tours in
rural and urban areas and also visit NGOs and projects engaged in
intervention activities in the area of reproductive health. This is the
second course that IIPS is organizing at the request of NCI for providing an
exposure to Nordic students on India’s population and health issues.
Prof. P.N. Mari Bhat, Director of IIPS inaugurated the
course on 9th July in the presence of Prof. Mirja Juntunen, Director of
Nordic Center in India. Dr. T.V. Sekher is the Coordinator of the programme.
